You came clean then but once pitting starts on plating it only gets worse. If its the lowers, the fork legs are either chrome or what appears to be brushed aluminum. They're not brushed aluminum. It will bring back the luster but only for a very short time. The chrome it a cheap job and pitting is telling you it's down to the base steel. If it hasn't started rusting yet, it will soon. Abrading the chrome will just hurry up the process. The only way to properly fix it is a re chrome. Is your wheel the hard rubber or the wood grain? After six months and only 10,000 miles of running them in the winter they are junk. The chrome is pitted and they look like they are ten years old. I am going there this morning to show them and have them order replacements. Wiping the aluminum rims clean weekly helps prevent damage. The protective coating prevents pitting and damage to the rims. Proper maintenance of the brakes helps you keep the rims clean. Break dust is difficult to remove after staying on the rims for long.
